GABRIEL SCIENTIFIC won the overall prize last night at The Irish Times InterTradeIreland Innovation awards. The Dublin-based firm invented a pillow aimed at reducing the risk of patients contracting hospital-acquired infections (HAI), such as MRSA, from lying on contaminated bedding. They accepted the award from President Michael D Higgins, honorary guest at the event. Earlier in the night, the company also won the product innovation award.
The Duren® Medi-Line positioning cushions are three dimensional and contour shaped. Depending on the application, various foam grades can be combined. The foam core is spray-coated with a suitable polyurethane coating. The coating has a high elasticity and tear resistance. It can be wipe cleaned and disinfected.
The products are designed specifically to help hospitals cost-effectively combat the risk of hospital-acquired infections caused by bacterial cross-contamination via bedding, positional aids and pressure relief surfaces.
